OSM Page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:landuse%3Dresidential
RP: i don't think this will add anything, and should be dropped. it appears to be huge blocks of data covering an entire city/town/village, which in OSM is wrong - landuse should not overlap with parks, roads, lakes, bus stations, schools, etc. (for an example of how landuse should be used, take a look at parnell, auckland at zoom 18). also, if we are importing cadastral information, it become redundant - each parcel will likely be tagged with something indicating its status/zoning.
maybe it could be used for rural villages with no other coverage only, until it can be mapped properly
HB Aug 2012: I dunno, seems kinda useful, and others seem to be uploading the data on their own volition out-of-process. I'll give you that it is flawed if it crosses lakes and things (does it? did anybody test?), but is the flaw definitively fatal?
